Kasey + Steven: Bush Chapel, Port Macquarie Wedding

Kasey + Steven: Bush Chapel, Port Macquarie Wedding

Goldilocks weather – not too hot or too cold, pastel colours and a stormy sunset. This wedding was sweet, simple and full of surprises! Kasey and Steven embraced a unique and minimalist approach with accents of symbolism borrowed from Biblical stories, such as The Ten Bridesmaids. Instead of the traditional processional, the groomsmen and guests accompanied the bride and her maids to the ceremony. Steven and Kasey also shared their very first kiss privately, after the ceremony.

If any wedding could be described as an intimate, ‘less-is-more’, family affair, it would certainly be Stephen and Kasey’s. Every detail could be traced back to the loving hands of some close family member or friend. ‘Poppy and Nan’ baked and decorated the cake. Kasey asked her mother to sew her a plain, white dress. Aunties and cousins crafted the bouquets and decorations with the ferns being sourced on-site and succulents gathered by Kasey from a nearby farm. Kasey’s uncle officiated the marriage and her mother and brother signed the registry.

If Steven’s parents had been able to fly into Australia to attend, no doubt they too would have had some special role. Yet, they were there in heart, watching over Zoom. They also wrote a speech which the MC read out on their behalf, during the reception.

Speaking of the reception, Kasey and Steven again ditched tradition by switching out the bridal table for aprons. The first round of serving was provided by the bridal party. For seconds, guests were able to help themselves to the tables burdened with an abundant supply of eye-catching and delicious dishes. Kasey’s mother catered for weddings in the past and couldn’t help but remain involved in this element of the day. As mother of the bride however, she entrusted the beloved role largely to close friends and fellow-caterers, Christine and Evelyn. The women did an incredible job and some guests went back for thirds. (Don’t worry, I won’t name you.) 😉

One name I cannot allow to remain incognito though is groomsman Geoffrey. For a different reason, mind you. The bridesmaids’ speech was beautiful. Geoffrey’s on the other hand was hysterical! I mean, scroll down until you see a chocolate brown man holding a microphone and then see the faces of the bridal party. He had us all in stitches, telling how Steven and Kasey met on a mission trip and of the men’s dormitory conversations when Steven first realised he was falling in love! And indeed, madly in love was written all over Steven’s face on this day they will never forget – the 1st of November, 2020.

It was an honour and privilege to document your beautiful day, Kasey and Steven! Congratulations! Here’s to your love and laughter only multiplying in the days and years ahead!
